Spring Woodland Wildflowers

The Butler University Campus is home to many beautiful spring and summer blooming wildflowers. Begin your search by clicking on the "Wildflower Search" button to the left.  To search for other species of wildflowers that have been observed in Marion County, go to Marion County Flora Search.

Photographs were taken by Marcia Moore, Friesner Herbarium, and may not be used, except for educational purposes, without first obtaining permission.

Information about the plants were obtained from:
Field Guide to Indiana Wildflowers, Kay Yatskievych, Indiana University Press, 2000.
Wildflowers - Northeastern/North-central North America, Peterson Field Guides; Roger Tory Peterson/ Margaret McKenny, 1996;
Wildflowers of Indiana, Fred Wampler, Maryrose Wampler, IU Press, 1988;

Many of the wildflowers featured in our Marion County Flora search were observed and recorded by Kay Yatskievych, noted Indiana botanist and author of Field Guide to Indiana Wildflowers, published by Indiana University Press, 2000. These include native and non-native wildflowers (excludes grasses, sedges, and rushes) that might be found in Marion County, Indiana during the months of March - June.  Download a PDF checklist to take with you on your wildflower hunts.  This checklist will be updated soon. To find locations, go to our Marion County Map of Inventory Sites.
