The five-pointed leaf of maple is familiar from the Canadian national flag. All maples produce helicopter-like paired fruits to assist with dispersal from the parent plant. Maple wood is prized for furniture-making, and sap of trees is used in making syrup. The seeds are a good source of food for squirrels.
