Achillea ptarmica, commonly known as Sneezewort or White Tansy, is a herbaceous perennial native to Europe and western Asia, and naturalized in parts of North America. It typically grows 30 to 80 centimeters (1 to 2.5 feet) tall and is distinguished by its smooth, narrow, toothed leaves and clusters of small, white, button-like flowers that bloom in mid to late summer. Unlike the flat flower heads of common yarrow (A. millefolium), Sneezewort's inflorescences are more loosely arranged. It prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade and is often found in meadows, streambanks, and garden plantings. Historically, it was used in folk medicine and was believed to induce sneezing, giving rise to its common name.
