Acalypha deamii, commonly known as Deam’s Three-seeded Mercury, is a native annual herb found in parts of the central and eastern United States. It typically grows 1 to 2 feet tall and has simple, alternate leaves with finely toothed edges. The plant produces small, inconspicuous green flowers clustered in leaf axils, and as the common name suggests, it forms fruit capsules that contain three seeds. Deam’s Three-seeded Mercury prefers moist, disturbed habitats such as forest edges, streambanks, and roadsides. While not showy, it contributes to native plant diversity and serves as part of the understory vegetation in many ecosystems.
